Medical Assistant
SUMMARY:
Responsible for effective management of patient visits with the physician or extender. Responsible for knowledge of Federal and State guidelines as well as agency policy and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrates excellence in both written and verbal skills
- Demonstrates understanding of human problems, tact, and diplomacy in facilitations of relationships with all staff and public
- Demonstrates knowledge of general office functions and medical terminology
- Computer literate with preferred EHR knowledge
- Ability to prioritize tasks, handle pressure, and delicate situations
- Demonstrates confidentiality of all records; does not disclose information to unauthorized individuals
- Personal car for travel and a valid driver license
- Valid personal auto liability insurance coverage
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Add new information to patient records, and create new records as necessary. Report missing paperwork to the correct personnel in a timely manner
- Enter pertinent patient information into the appropriate computer data base(s) including new patient note and updated medication list
- Assist physician and/or extender in patient rooms
- Ensure patients are in the room, interview patients, measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document in the patient’s electronic chart
- Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or extender
- Ensure all related reports, labs and information are readily available for review prior to appointment via EHR
- Keep car stock of needed medical supplies, instruments, and forms used routinely
- Forward orders and medication requests to the office triage nurse for processing
- Ensure all paperwork including new patient paperwork is completed and signed appropriately and returned to the designated office personnel
- Answer questions about records and files in order to assist patients and/or families as well as facility staff
- Report scheduling changes and missed visits to the scheduler so that calendar can be updated
- Organize the physician and extender to keep consistent flow so that patient visits are efficient
- Collaborate with Director of Nursing or other designated facility personnel to ensure that needs are being met and good relationships are formed
- Must exercise utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to Company policies and HIPAA requirements
- Perform all other duties as assigned
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Requires ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports
- Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
- Reports to the Director of Provider Services or other Administrators as assigned
